Dear Parents and Community
Members:
We are pleased to present
you with the Annual
Education Report (AER) which
provides key information on
the 2010-2011 educational
progress for Arvon Township
School. The AER addresses
the complex reporting
information required by
federal and state laws. The
school’s report contains
information about student
assessment, Adequate Yearly
Progress (AYP) and teacher
quality. If you have any
questions about the AER,
please contact Lori Johnson
for assistance.
The AER is available for you
to review electronically by
visiting the following web
site
http://www.arvontownshipschool.org
or you may review a copy
located in the business
office by contacting Kathy
Drue at 524-7336.
For 2010-2011, Arvon
Township School made
Adequate Yearly Progress
(AYP) in English language
arts and mathematics. While
we are pleased to have
reached this important goal,
we are continuously working
to improve.
We appreciate the
continued support of
parents, staff and our
community in this effort.
State law requires that we
also report additional
information:
Arvon Township School is
school of choice serving
students in kindergarten
through sixth grade.
Students in seventh through
twelfth grade have the
option of attending L’Anse
Area Schools or Baraga
Schools.
All students are taught
appropriate grade level
skills as designated by
Michigan's Grade Level
Content Expectations and
Michigan Model Content
Standards in
reading-language arts,
mathematics, science and
social studies. We integrate
Michigan Standards for
foreign language,
technology, the arts and
physical education. All
students learn and practice
real-life problem solving
skills.
The Copper Country
Intermediate School District
Learning Center in Hancock
provides a Special Education
Program for severely
impaired children within the
district.
This program offers
interactive classroom
activities, specialized
equipment and supportive
services for children in a
larger geographic area to
better meet their specific
needs.
Special Education Programs
are also available to
eligible students through
the L’Anse and Baraga school
districts.
Students participate
in activities to the extent
of their abilities and are
provided transportation to
participate in these
programs.
Those students at Arvon with
specific learning needs are
assisted through
individualized learning
programs, flexible grouping,
lessons based on need,
one-on-one tutoring, Title I
classroom paraprofessionals,
learning disabled resources,
school social work,
teacher/parent
consultations, ISD and other
support services.
Arvon Township School
District follows a
cycle A and B core
curriculum
and it provides an
extension to the core
curriculum that includes
World languages, physical
education and health (EPEC
and MI Model), visual arts,
music and performing arts,
integrated technology and
career and employment
skills.
Arvon Township School has
organized School Improvement
committees which review our
school Philosophy, Mission
Statement, and goals for all
students to achieve.
Committees are divided by
areas of the Michigan School
Improvement Framework
adopted in 2006. Parental
involvement on committees is
included in the School
Improvement Plan and the
plan also addresses areas of
the curriculum focused on
for the planning of After
School and Summer Programs.
Arvon Township School
assesses all students
regularly and in various
ways taking into account
multiple learning processes.
The Michigan Education
Assessment Program is
administered to all public
school students in grades
third through ninth. In
October 2010, the number of
students enrolled in Arvon
Township School within
tested grades was less than
ten; therefore, statistical
averages for each area
cannot be published without
compromising student
confidentiality.
Parent/Teacher conferences
are held twice each year
with 100% participation.
Parent support of the school
and its mission is
appreciated.
